About Cory "Ruthless" Routh
Cory is among the most influential kayak anglers on the east coast. He has over 20 years of kayak fishing experience, and has led the charge for kayak anglers in Virginia. He is the founder of the Tidewater Kayak Anglers Association, the Mid-Atlantic’s biggest kayak fishing club and online community. Cory also started their successful annual charity tournament which in 2009 had a record setting 215 anglers participate. In 2008 he published the book “Kayak Fishing- The Complete Guide” which has been touted as the bible of kayak fishing. His book contains lots of great info and some excellent photography, most which was taken by him. It sold out in less than two years and is available in a revised edition. Ruthless is very respected by industry and has worked with some great Companies. These include, Temple Fork Outfitters, Hobie Kayaks, YakAttack, SmithFly, Flymen Fishing Company, and Seigler Fly Reels.
Nationally known as Ruthless, Cory is probably one of the most traveled kayak anglers. He has fished waters from New York City to Texas and all in between. His most exciting kayak fishing adventure was along the North Shore of Oahu. Ruthless is not just a kayak fishing expert, he is also an experienced outdoors man who also enjoys flyfishing, big game, waterfowl and upland bird hunts.
Cory has a BS in Marine Biology from East Carolina University, and has worked for several environmental agencies. His resume includes time with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Virginia Dept. of Game and Inland Fisheries, Virginia Marine Resources Commission, and currently the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. With VADEQ, Cory is the manager for the Tidewater Regional Chesapeake Bay and Coastal Assessment water quality monitoring programs. Most recently Cory has joined the Marketing and R&D team at Seigler Reels.
